Selling a home in the winter months might seem like a bad idea, but as Realtor® Caitlin Radzanowski explains, there are some definite advantages of selling a home during this season, even in snowy Prince George, BC!
“Any time of the year can be a good time to sell. Although there may be fewer people looking in the winter, those who are willing to come out in the cold tend to be more serious buyers. There is also usually less competition in the winter, which can be an advantage to sellers.”
What can I do to make my home more appealing to buyers in the winter?
“The very first thing would be to make sure it’s accessible. Clear the walkways and driveway of snow and ice. Keeping patios and decks clear is a good idea as well.
Have the temperature in the home at a comfortable level, clean light fixtures and replace any burnt out bulbs to allow for maximum light.
Staging with a warm and cozy atmosphere is a great idea too. Put out some warm throws, use winter bedding etc. Lighting a gas fireplace before showings can create a cozy and inviting atmosphere and add warmth to the home.”
Can I put up holiday decorations?
“This is a bit of a controversial one but I say absolutely! Houses decorated for the holidays can look warm and inviting. Just be sure it’s done tastefully and try to avoid too much clutter. If you’re getting a tree, maybe opt for a smaller one so you can still show off the space in your home.”
